White Wine Sangria w/Mango, Peach, & Ginger

As a self-proclaimed sangria-queen, I’m thrilled to bring you this tasty concoction.  It’s one mighty awesome pitcher of deliciousness… crisp white wine, mango nectar, and a homemade ginger-honey simple syrup along with some sparkly sizzle and fresh fruit.  Yah, it’s good.  It may look summery, but this bevy here is perfect for fall, too :)

I make sangria often… I love the stuff.  Wine + Fruit = Goodness.  It’s a fact :)  I sometimes just keep it easy and throw some fruit, some bubbles, and some wine together (good enough to please me!), but after spending some time in Spain and realizing that there are so many options to play with, I became obsessed with experimenting further.  I have made every kind you can imagine… pomegranate, cherry, nectarine; you name it, I’ve likely tried it. Sometimes they’re red, sometimes white, sometimes both.  This one though just may be my latest fave.  It’s refreshing, it’s unique, it’s not too sweet, and it’s made with some seriously good ingredients… yummo.

This concoction invented on a whim (as most things are in my kitchen).  I was going to a potluck at my friend’s house; knowing my friends, I thought some sangria may be in order.  So I ran to the store, got some goodies, and came back to her place ready to whip things up!  I made two different versions… one red pomegranate sangria with blueberries and pom juice, and this- a white peachy gingery one.    I’ve never had ginger in a sangria, but my sister and I were randomly naming tasty food duos and peach-ginger came to mind.  There, it was settled.  So I started putting together a homemade ginger simple syrup made with raw honey and slices of fresh ginger.  That is some seriously good stuff by the way!  From there, this guy just started taking shape.  A wonderfully balanced blend of fruity goodness with crisp refreshingness was made.

They key to sangria though is really the fruit.  Mmm that fruit.  Mango, peaches, strawberry, and lime.  Want to improvise?  Blueberries, oranges, grapes, and apples all work, too!  Just about anything does.  Well maybe not bananas… stay clear from them 😉  But otherwise, play around.  I found this mix to be the perfect fit for the flavor combo I was going for though…

makes 6-8 servings

1 bottle dry white wine (Sauv. Blanc works well)

1/2 cup mango nectar (pure mango puree)

1/2 cup Triple Sec

1/2 cup ginger simple syrup (recipe below)

1 cup sparkling water

1/2 cup each, chopped: mango, peach, and strawberry

1 lime, sliced

for ginger simple syrup…

1 cup water

3/4 cup raw honey

1/4 cup sliced gingerP1090065

To make simple syrup…

Slice ginger (the more you slice, the more gingery it will be!)

I use raw honey (I really like THIS one)

Add the water, honey, and ginger to a small pot and bring it to a boil

P1090058Let it cook, lightly boiling, for about ten minutes or so P1090060

Remove from heat and set aside to cool

Now you have your ginger-honey simple syrup!

To make the sangria…

Chop the mango and peach and then slice the strawberry (this is my method anyway, I think the strawberries look pretty sliced)

Thinly slice the lime, as wellP1090067

Get the mango nectar, Triple Sec, sparkling water, and ginger syrup ready to go…

Mix everything together, stir, and taste!

Adjust flavors as desired

You can add fruit now, or add it into the cups themselves… adding the fruit to the pitcher makes the pitcher itself look beautiful- great for a pot luck or gathering- and allows the fruit to soak up the flavors; however adding it to the cups individually ensures that the fruit’s evenly distributed and keeps it fresh.  You really can’t lose either way :)

Add ice cubes to glasses… and there you go! Deliciousness awaiting your gulping.
