Sorbet & ‘Scream Layer

June 4, 2015 by Natalie

There are three ways to make this:

1- Throw some scoops of varying sorbet and ice cream flavors in a bowl and dig in.

2- Spread a layer of each flavor into a ramekin, knowing you’ll get a mish-mash of colors and flavors, but it will taste freaking delicious.

3- Meticulously freeze one layer at a time to make pretty even layers that resemble sedimentary rock formations in the colors of a sunset, dig in, and enjoy happily.

This recipe shows method 3…. ’cause I’m pretty sure you’ve got 1 and 2 down on your own.  😉

In short, pick a simple vanilla, two favorite sorbets, some fresh fruit, and get ready for a layered morsel of dreamsicle tasting heaven.  There will be some waiting, but it’s worth the piece of art that you’ll create in the end.  ❤

per serving…

INGREDIENTS

3/4 cup vanilla cream, melted

1/4 cup blood orange sorbet (or other flavor you like)

1/4 cup raspberry sorbet (or other flavor you like)

optional: fresh fruit, mint leave, edible flowers

equipment: a ramekin (I use THESE) and Saran wrap

DIRECTIONS

Lightly grease a ramekin (the shallow wide ones work best, like  THESE)

Lay a pice of Saran wrap in the center, trying to get it as flat against the sides and bottom as possible

(Keep in mind wrinkles in the plastic = dents in the ice cream)

To melt ice cream and sorbet, you can either leave them out until liquidy, or heat in microwave

Start with a 1/4 cup vanilla ice cream… pour it on the bottom of the ramekin

(The bottom will eventually be the top) 🙂

It may not be perfect along the edges, but get it as good as you can

Freeze for approx 20-30 minutes, until hardened

Once frozen, pour 1/4 cup blood orange sorbet over it

Again, freeze until hardened

Then another 1/4 cup of vanilla ice cream….

Yep you guessed it, freeze again 😉

Add 1/4 cup raspberry sorbet

Freeze until hardened

(Tip: if the edges aren’t smooth along the sides, use a chopstick to flatten the Saran wrap)

Top with the final 1/4 cup of vanilla…

And freeze one last time

Loosen the Saran wrap from the sides and pull the whole thing out

Turn it over (so the bottom is now the top) and plop it on a plate

Top with whatever delicious goodies you like and enjoy immediately ♥
